Testimonials

“Indianapolis is home to the Indy 500, an event in which there is only one winner and a whole lot of professionals making nothing but a series of left turns that get them absolutely nowhere. Indianapolis is also home to Mary Beth Braun, a Certified Dream Manager that produces nothing but winners who run in the right circles. Mary Beth is a colleague but maybe more importantly, Mary Beth is my Dream Manager. In a city where champions toot their own horn, Mary Beth is more concerned about waving the checkered flag for her clients. If you're constantly living your life under a caution flag, put Mary Beth on your team and we'll see you in the winner's circle.”

Getting My Groove Back: One Gal's Midlife Quest to Regain her Health and Sanity

Posted by: Mary Beth Braun   |   Tuesday, January 3, 2012

8 years of crazy, chaotic, fast-paced living.  One moment to decide it's over.

  • I am sick and tired of being sick and tired as life's chaotic pace and entrance into midlife have led my body to be a metabolic "train-wreck."
  • I am on my last journey to achieve my optimal weight as I have had a weight challenge nearly all of my life.
  • I've lost my Mojo and I want it back.

2012 begins my 18 month quest for a greater self, for a healthier self, for a happier life.

Why 18 months?  My gut tells me that it will take at least that long to get my groove back and learn to live my own rhythm of life.

How will I achieve this?

I will begin changing my habits, one habit at a time.

Over the last years, I've gone in and out of good habits. I have maintained, for the most part, a solid exercise program.  I go in and out of eating well depending upon my stress level.  I have sporadically engaged in spiritual activities.

2012, 12 new habits, one changed life - mine.

I will hire a health coach.

Why? Because we all need a coach to hold us accountable to our dreams and plans... otherwise months and years can slip by and we discover we have made little or no progress. Because in order to achieve my optimum vision of healthy aging, I need help implementing and sustaining lifestyle changes and behaviors.

I will know my numbers and work with health care professionals.

In June of 2011, I enlisted the help of a Nurse Practitioner to help me know my numbers and work with me to balance out the various systems of my body from a Integrative perspective.   In January of 2012, I will enlist the help of an Oriental Medicine professional to help me balance out my system from an Eastern perspective.  I will also begin an 8 week course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with a Duke University Professional to mitigate the effects of years of chaotic living.

I will blog regularly to document my thoughts, feelings, challenges, and accomplishments.

By sharing my story and my quest, I hope to learn what will work for me to maintain my health as I age. I hope my thoughts and musings will help even one person become their greatest self and live a happier and healthier life as they age.

Let my quest begin.
