Testimonials

“Indianapolis is home to the Indy 500, an event in which there is only one winner and a whole lot of professionals making nothing but a series of left turns that get them absolutely nowhere. Indianapolis is also home to Mary Beth Braun, a Certified Dream Manager that produces nothing but winners who run in the right circles. Mary Beth is a colleague but maybe more importantly, Mary Beth is my Dream Manager. In a city where champions toot their own horn, Mary Beth is more concerned about waving the checkered flag for her clients. If you're constantly living your life under a caution flag, put Mary Beth on your team and we'll see you in the winner's circle.”

Get My Groove Back: Habit 1: Regular Exercise

Posted by: Mary Beth Braun   |   Tuesday, January 31, 2012

In my quest for getting my groove back, my first habit is to get back to a regular exercise program.

Fortunately, I love to exercise.

In my 30's, I ran 1/2 marathons and sprint triathlons, lifted weights with a trainer and was a spinning fanatic.  I lost a lot of weight and hit my all time low on the scales and thought I conquered my life long battle.  I had won, until my stress levels hit an all time high in my late 30's with some personal and professional challenges and I began menopause at 42.

In my 40's, the long term stress and metabolic changes, have caused me to slowly lose the battle with the scale.  With 40+ pounds regained and nothing seeming to work with exercise or diet, I am in a continual search of an exercise plan to fight midlife weight gain and my growing midsection.

My gut tells me that in order to win my challenge, I have to build lean muscle mass and improve my flexibility.  This means scaling back on the intense 90 minute cardio sessions and increasing my weightlifting and yoga.  I will continue cardio with interval training, alternating intense bursts of effort with recovery periods.

So, here's my plan:

Habit: At least 30 minutes of exercise, 5 days a week.

Activities: Weight Lifting, Yoga, Pilates, Cardio, Zumba

I'm looking forward to improving my mood and my waistline!

Stay tuned for my progress.
