FAQ

Coaching

What is coaching?

Coaching is a dynamic partnership between a coach and client in which the client envisions her optimal well-being and works with the coach to define and achieve specific, measurable goals for success. The journey begins with a creative exploration of both current and desired states. Through a collaborative process, the client develops a plan that represents her ideal vision of health. The plan is then broken down into a series of action steps that help the client achieve and sustain success.

How can coaching help me?

Coaching enlists the support and aid of a compassionate, nonjudgmental partner (the coach) who holds you accountable to your vision and your plan. The coaching process can help you:

  • Cultivate self-awareness and discovery.
  • Identify and harness strengths.
  • Strengthen your commitment to achieving your goals.
  • Develop clarity around your vision for your personal and professional life.
  • Build and sustain new habits and competencies.
  • Recognize and overcome barriers to change.
  • Create strategies for navigating and sustaining change.
  • Gain confidence in decision-making.
  • Develop resilience and master the art of starting over.

What can I expect from my coach?

You can expect me to be a fully present partner on your journey towards your best self and life. This means:

  • Listening to what you say—and what you don't say.
  • Asking powerful questions that require reflection and self-exploration.
  • Giving honest, compassionate feedback.
  • Challenging you when necessary on limiting behaviors and belief systems through inquiry.
  • Holding you accountable.
  • Asking reorienting questions to shift perspectives and open possibilities.
  • Bringing mindful awareness into our work together.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.* (See below.)
  • Encouraging you to celebrate your successes.

What do you expect of a client?

I expect that you, as a client, to show up for your coaching sessions and your life. This means preparing for sessions in advance by taking time to review recent accomplishments and setbacks as well as what you would like to address in the session. I expect you to be honest with yourself and me, commit to the process, be willing to take risks, be open to explore possibilities and celebrate your successes. While I will help facilitate your progress and success, I cannot enact your plan for you. You must show up for you—and I will be by your side encouraging you as you take steps toward achieving your goals.

How long does coaching last?

Research shows that lasting behavior change takes a minimum of three months (90 days) to achieve. Thus, I recommend your initial commitment to the process be at least three months. After that, you may renew on a month-to-month basis. A typical coaching client achieves one or two focused goals within three months of meeting twice per month. More extensive goals may require coaching for six months to a year or more.

How is coaching different from psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy includes diagnosing and/or treating mental health or emotional issues. Coaching is a practical, solution-oriented approach where a coach compassionately partners with a client to help them set and achieve the goals and outcomes they desire.

Where do you coach clients?

I coach most clients on the phone. However, if you live in the Indianapolis or surrounding area, I'm happy to meet with you in my professional office at 9135 N. Meridian St., Suite B8, Indianapolis, Ind.

What are your fees?

I offer clients a variety of options to address their health and well-being. Please see the services and pricing page for more information on packages and fees.

How do I know you are the right coach for me?

Coaching is a very personal relationship and not every coach will suit every client. That's why I offer a complimentary 15-30 minute introductory session so we can mutually determine if we are a good fit for one another. I encourage my potential clients to talk to two or three coaches so they can make the best decision for themselves. If you would like to schedule a sample session, please contact me.

What if I have other questions?

I'm happy to discuss your coaching needs and answer any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to the opportunity to partner with you as you envision and achieve the optimal health and well-being you desire and deserve. Contact me via email the connect page.
