Local and Favorite Resources

February 24, 2023 | by Mary Beth Braun

I am a self-proclaimed product queen, foodie and amateur chef. This coupled with my own journey to reclaim my health and deep desire to live a quality life while I age led me to study functional nutrition with Andrea Nakayama (hot link to replenishpdx.com) for the past 4 years. I’ve learned a thing or two along the way.

My health requires me to be gluten and (mostly) dairy free. If you’re like me and have certain nutritional requirements, be it gluten free (gf), dairy free(df), vegetarian or vegan, you may feel the same challenges I do for getting great products or dining out.

I’ve discovered some great restaurant items and products, locally here in Indy (and the surrounding areas) as well as vetted out some products that have become favorites of mine.

Local Restaurant Favorites:

The Garden Table:

  • Hoosier Heater and Lush Love cold pressed juices
  • Garden Benedict – in my top ten dishes I’ve ever tasted, seriously!
  • Hummingbird mush

Natural Born Juicers:

  • Gold Milk
  • Mexicoco Smoothie (I prefer it w/o the cayenne, but if you like a little kick, try it out)

Ezra’s Enlightened Café:

  • Pretty much any of the desserts – super yum!
  • Carrot Spiced Muffin
  • Protein Warrior Shake
  • Nacho Mama’s Bean Bowl
  • Taco Salad – a daily special when they have it

Public Greens Urban Kitchen:

  • Many GF and Vegan offerings
  • Salads are delish – add some protein unless your vegetarian

Open Society Public House:

  • Many GF and Vegetarian offerings
  • Galletas a.k.a - GF Chicken and Waffles

Local Favorite Products:

Skinny Coconut Oil – put it in your coffee or eat it out of the jar

Revival Food Co – Amazing nut butters – all terrific, Super Spread is my favorite

Native Bread - Delicious GF, DF bread

Other Favorite Nutritious Finds:

The Daily Harvest Smoothies - My favorite is the carrot chia – tastes like carrot cake or pumpkin pie

Splendid Spoon - Vegan and GF Soups and Breakfasts

BluePrint Juices - Fresh pressed juices; Kale it up is a favorite; you can order online or get most of them at Whole Foods

Kettle and Fire Bone Broth - According to the K&F website, Bone broth has been shown to be one of the best things to help with:

  • Healing a leaky gut
  • Overcoming food intolerance and allergies
  • Improving joint health
  • Reducing cellulite
  • Boosting the immune system
